Baby Names

This is an interesting topic to discuss. Some people name their kids after family members, friends, restaurants, towns, celebrities, and so many more things. Some people just name their kids names they like. Maybe a name they wished theirs was. So, let's open this up for discussion.

What are the names in your family- siblings, kids, spouse?
Friends?
What's your favorite name?
Do you wish you had a different name?
What's your nickname?

I will answer them to get things going. First off, my name is Gillian. (sounds like Jillian.) My parents didn't name me after anyone I don't think. It was just a name they liked. They didn't like the name Jill, so they spelled it with a G with the hope that no one would call me Jill. Well, people still call me Jill. :) I like my full name better though.

I have a huge family- so here are the names. Oh- and the girls don't have middle names. They just use their maiden names. Just the boys have middle names.

My mom's name is Christina Teichert Clark
My dad's name is James Neil Clark

The siblings go as follows:

James Jason
Adam H.
Chelsey
Jess Thomas
Adrianne
Lance Allen
Lindsey
David Peter
Gillian (me)
Kaitlin
Ammon Andrew

I like my name and Adrianne's name and Ammon's name the best, because they are the most unique. :)

I don't have any kids, but when I do, I like the names Marlie, Chloe, Avorie, and London for girls. For boys, I like: Harrison, Emmerson, and Boston.

My friends all have pretty normal names. Ally, Alyssa, Brittney, Kilee, Eliza, and Camilla (which is probably the most different out of all of them.)

I don't wish I had a different name. I love mine.

My favorite name is probably mine. It's beautiful. And, I love London. :) It's classy.

What about  you? How do you go about choosing names?

  1. What I found was my 2 page list of favorite names for my children paled in comparison to my husband's preferences toward family names and circumstance. For instance, our first son was named Brandon Eugene because Eugene is a family name and my husband was picky about what names sounded good with Eugene. (wouldn't you be?)

Our twin boys--Jeffrey David and Daniel James--were named in the shock of driving home after learning we were having twin boys. They are my 4 brothers' first names.

Kylie Rose was our first girl born after my husband's Grandma Rose died. Kylie was my input--it was going to be Khiley but I didn't want to hurt the child.

Rianne Michele was named pretty much from the baby books. No family names, no connections. Just something I liked that sounded good. And hubby agreed.

And, for the record, I hate my name. I was named Cheryl and called Cheri from birth. All through school I had to correct every teacher I ever had. I swore I would change my name, but by the time I hit 18 I couldn't find another name that suited me.

I used to hit kids who called me Cheryl, and they all knew it.

  2. I like my name too! We have a very difficult time agreeing on boy names...which is all we have.
